The Lanes Brighton Shopping
Brighton is a city for independent shopping lovers. Around North Laine, North Street and the historic Brighton Lanes you'll find over 350 independent shops (see listings via the Brighton Independent Shopping webguide right).
Brighton's narrow Lanes or twittens nestle between the cultural quarter and seafront and have an international reputation today for their choice of fine antiques shops, jewellery, designer boutiques and gift shops and selection of chic cafes and bars. Access to the Lanes carpark adjacent is off the Kings Road but this often fills up so if you're with car, park further up around the University of Brighton or around the Churchill Square shopping centre and walk down. (see Visit Brighton for good city centre maps with carparks highlighted).
The Lanes once formed the centre of old Brighthelmstone fishing town and particular lanes have historic significance such as Black Lion Lane thought to be an escape route for Charles II or further forward Quadrophenia Alley which featured in the cult 1979 film Quadrophenia set in 1960s Brighton.
Todays independent shop favourites on the lanes include the Jewellery shops on Brighton Place, the choice of fine restaurants and cafes around Market Street and outstanding quirky collectables shops like the Lanes Armoury and specialist fine food and drink bars like Riddle & Finns Champagne and Oyster Bar on Meeting House Lane. See full listings via Brighton's Independent Shopping webguide.
