Hove Seafront, King Alfred Centre & Hove Lagoon

A little more sedate than the bustling Brighton West Beach, Hove seafront including the Blue Flag beach area of Hove Lawns has an altogether continental vibe and is perfect if you're looking for a more chilled atmosphere or Brighton family beach hotspot. The Hove Lawns seafront area west of West Pier and down from Regency Brunswick Square is a hugely popular space for picnics, games, festival events including the annual Brighton Food and Drink Festival and regular circus performances and more.

Families will love the Hove Lawns beach area which has easy ramp access alongside a Blue Flag Status. Cafes, restaurants and shops are also all within easy walking distance of Hove Lawns. The Hove Lawns beach itself is pebble but with a good expanse of sand exposed at low tide.

For watersports and leisure activities, two great centres are in Hove. The King Alfred Leisure Centre right on the Hove seafront west of the Hove Lawns offers a huge leisure swimming pool with regular kids float sessions. A choice of dry sports facilities are also available at the King Alfred including 5-A-Side football, badminton, volleyball, table tennis and basketball. A gym, therapy room, and ballroom suite are all on-site. The Hove Lagoon off Kingsway is actually two lagoons, the larger lagoon is used by Hove Lagoon Watersports and is perfect for kids sailing and windsurfing and often plays host to major National Windsurfing Championships. Also on offer is surfing, paddle boarding, waterskiing and various corporate and watersports events. Checkout Hove Lagoon's webguide right for details on courses and activities. The smaller lagoon is popular for model boat sailing. A cafe, kids playground and toilets are all on-site and a new skate park is promised soon.

Sussex County Cricket Club was the very first 'First-Class County' formed in 1839 and took residence at the Eaton Road site from 1871. The first county match was played here in June 1872 when Sussex faced Gloucestershire. Hove Park & West Blatchington Windmill

The huge Hove Park bordering the Old Shoreham Road and sitting adjacent to the Hove Greyhound Stadium is a popular park for events and contains a choice of actvities plus the Pavilion Tea Rooms. The historic Goldstone sitting in the park's southwest corner, and from which the old Brighton & Hove Albion FC ground which once stood on Old Shoreham Road got its name, is thought to have been used by the Druids for worship. A plaque detailing the legends around the stone sits adjacent to it and if you look closely you'll see the shape of a human face in this 20 ton stone!

Winning the Green Flag Award in 2006, Hove Park contains a miniature steam railway running on summer weekends, a playground, football pitches, tennis, toilets and a climbing boulder. The Hove Lions Carnival in Hove Park which includes a big funfair and plenty of family entertainment is a popular event in Hove Park annually across the May Bank Holiday Weekend.

The South East contains a selection of historic smock windmills and you'll find one in the West Blatchington area of Hove on Holmes Avenue.
