The Cart Barn offers historic accommodation in an 18th century, grade 2 listed building on the East Sussex Coast. Spacious rooms, comfortable beds, romantic.

The Cart barn is a grade two listed 18th century building of considerable charm and character. The earliest records of the barn can be found dating back to 1815. The exact date of construction is unknown but it is probable the barn was constructed around 1750. The barn is now a grade two listed building offering luxury accommodation. The barn has had a chequered history, just a few years ago it was used for the stabling of horses and during 2nd world war, North American troops used the barn to cook their pre packed rationed food.

Go back a little further in time and Shire horses used to pull the wagons into the barn for storage from the elements. Next to the barn you will see a natural spring fed pond, which had you been around a couple of hundred years ago, you may have seen the carts being stood in the pond to keep the wheels wet, to avoid shrinkage.

The barn has been sympathetically restored to offer accommodation of the highest standard throughout.The kitchen/dinning and lounge area is spacious with double sofa bed,colour television,with free view.The kitchen is stocked with cooker, fridge, washing machine, crockery, cutlery, kettle etc..and dining room tale and chairs. (for b+b guests the kitchen is stocked with everything needed for a full English breakfast). The modern bathroom has shower in bath and is roomy with all the expected mod cons. The very romantic bedroom with its vaulted beamed ceilings and iron and brass bed offer a country retreat of exceptional charm and comfort.

Specialities

Outside their is ample parking with large garden overlooking fields and an outside seating area perfect for eating and relaxing. The garden has been made escape free (for children and dogs so you can unwind). There are some beautiful walks right on your doorstep and Herstmonceux castle is just up the road. The seaside town of Hastings is just twenty mins away Eastbourne 15 mins and Brighton 30 mins. Spare barn available for those who have horses.
